Bocce is an Italian game. The basic principle of the sport is to roll a bocce ball closest to the target ball, which is called a palina. Bocce as a Special Olympics sport provides people with special needs the opportunity to have social contact, develop physically and to gain self-confidence. New and experienced players are encouraged to attend this instruction-based program. This is not a league. Non-competitive program designed to develop skills and promote fun while participating in loosely organized drills to teach the basics of field hockey. Players go through multiple skill building stations and play loosely organized games that emphasize learned skills. Sticks and balls are provided. All participants must bring mouth guard, shin guards, and tennis shoes.

The program emphasizes teamwork, confidence-building, and enjoyment, and concludes with a celebration session recognizing effort and progress.
